The Adoptive Families of Hong Kong is very pleased to invite you to their upcoming Monthly Discussion + Parent Support Meeting: What is Therapeutic Parenting: Going Beyond Traditional Parenting Approaches to Meet a Child’s Needs on Friday, October 26, 2018 from 12:20 to 14:30.
We often question why some parenting strategies work, while others seem to fall short. Traditional parenting is mostly about consequences and rewards, but children who might have loss or insecure attachment in their histories don’t respond to consequences and rewards in the same way children with secure attachment respond. More important, when parenting adopted children we must also be aware of the impact these strategies will have on long-term attachment and the trauma-focused goals we have for our children.
Join them on October 26th for their Monthly Discussion and Parent Support Meeting as they discuss the topic of therapeutic parenting and what methods we can use instead of traditional parenting.
Parent Support Meeting: 1:30-2:30pm
Immediately following our Monthly Discussion, we’ll gather in two smaller groups to share experiences and ideas in a supportive environment. One group will focus on general parenting concerns while the other will discuss parenting children with attachment and behavioral issues. There is no extra fee for this portion of the meeting – just register for the Monthly Discussion; those who cannot stay for both meetings can just come for one or the other. Parent Support Meeting is open to all parents and caregivers, including waiting/prospective parents.
